Different type of tautomerism.
What is tautomerism?
When two structural isomers are inter converted
to each other very rapidly keeping up a dynamic equilibrium state between them,
then this two isomers are called tautomers and this phenomenon is called
tautomerism.
Example of tautomerism:
What is keto-enol tautomerism ?
There are many type of tautomerism. The most important one is
keto-enol tautomerism.
If one isomer is a carbonyl compound and the other is an enol,
then the equilibrium reaction is said to be kete-enol tautomerism.
Example of keto-enol
tautomerism:
An example of keto-enol tautomerism is acetyle acetone.
What is valence tautomerism ?
It is an example of geometrical isomerism
.There are very few equilibrium reaction in which the structural isomers, that
is, tautomers have two equivalent
structures which change back and forth by the
electron shift only and sort of tautomerism is called valence tautomerism.
An example of valence tautomerism is
cycloocta-1,3,5 triene.
